When Do You Pay the Remaining Balance After Buying Number Plate?

Balance Payment Guide

When Do You Pay the Remaining Balance After Buying a Number Plate?

For S1's applicable new-vehicle arrangement, if your vehicle arrives within the relevant 60-day period, notify the person in charge at least five working days in advance so the relevant PUSPAKOM B2 inspection can be arranged. After the relevant B2 stage, the remaining balance is paid in full before we proceed with the applicable JPJ ownership and plate transfer arrangement; if the vehicle does not arrive within 60 days, the remaining balance is still due within that 60-day period.

At S1 Number Plate, our team helps buyers understand the deposit, remaining balance and vehicle timing before the transaction moves to the next stage. Knowing the payment arrangement in advance makes it easier to plan around your vehicle's expected arrival.

When Is the Remaining Balance Due?

The remaining balance depends on the agreed transaction arrangement and the timing of the vehicle. For a new vehicle arriving within the relevant 60-day period, customers should inform the person in charge at least five working days before the vehicle arrives so the relevant PUSPAKOM B2 inspection can be arranged.

After the relevant B2 stage, the remaining balance is paid in full before we proceed with the applicable JPJ ownership and plate transfer procedures.

If the new vehicle does not arrive within 60 days, the remaining balance is still due within that 60-day period to complete the arrangement. In other words, a delayed vehicle does not automatically postpone the balance payment until the vehicle eventually arrives.

Deposit to Full Payment

How Does the Payment Progress from Deposit to Full Payment?

The payment arrangement is easier to understand as a progression: select the number → pay the deposit → prepare the vehicle → arrange B2 where applicable → pay the remaining balance → proceed with the relevant JPJ procedures.

  1. 01

Step 1: Select and Confirm Your Number Plate

First, you select the registration number and confirm the final selling price and transaction arrangement with our team.

At this stage, make sure the selected registration number, price and relevant arrangements are clear before making the deposit.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Pay the Deposit

For S1 transactions, the deposit terms are:

    • 10% of the selling price
    • Minimum RM2,000
    • Non-refundable
    • Non-transferable
    • Cannot be transferred to another registration number

Before making this payment, it is useful to review what to check before paying a number plate deposit.

  3. 03

Step 3: Prepare for the Vehicle and Required Procedures

After the deposit, the next arrangements depend partly on the vehicle situation and who will handle the relevant procedures.

A new and used vehicle may involve different arrangements, while customers may use their vehicle dealer's runner or an S1-assisted runner depending on the transaction.

  4. 04

Step 4: Arrange PUSPAKOM B2 Where Applicable

For the applicable new-vehicle arrangement, let the person in charge know at least five working days in advance when the vehicle will arrive within the relevant 60-day period.

This gives time for the relevant PUSPAKOM B2 inspection to be arranged before moving to the balance-payment stage.

  5. 05

Step 5: Pay the Remaining Balance

After the relevant B2 stage, the remaining balance is paid in full. We can then proceed with the applicable JPJ ownership and plate transfer arrangement.

This makes the balance payment a defined stage between the relevant vehicle preparation and the subsequent JPJ procedures.

What If Your New Car Has Not Arrived Within 60 Days?

A delayed vehicle does not automatically mean the remaining payment is postponed until the vehicle arrives.

Under our transaction arrangement, if the new vehicle does not arrive within the relevant 60-day period, the remaining balance is still due within that period to complete the arrangement.

This is particularly important if you are purchasing a registration number well before the expected delivery date of your vehicle. Our guide to buying a number plate before your new car arrives explains the vehicle-timing considerations in more detail.

Why Should You Confirm Your Vehicle Arrival Date Early?

Keeping our team informed about your vehicle timing helps us coordinate the relevant next steps, particularly when a PUSPAKOM B2 inspection needs to be arranged.

Let our team know:

  • Your expected vehicle arrival date
  • Whether the vehicle is new or used
  • Whether your dealer's runner or an S1-assisted runner will handle the relevant procedures
  • If the expected vehicle timing changes

If you are unsure how the vehicle type affects the arrangement, our guide to the new car vs used car number plate process covers those differences separately.

In summary, the remaining balance should be planned around the agreed transaction and vehicle timing rather than treated as an open-ended payment.
